Ahhh, Valentine’s Day – a day to express devotion, affection, and passion to those nearest and dearest to you. From chocolates, to candy, teddy bears and roses – so many ways to show loved ones you care. Remember the Valentine card exchange in class – the 3rd grade school crush, or the neighbour across the street that made you swoon at every sight? “Will you be my Valentine” written everywhere, the words wrapped in hearts… Has much changed over the years? The cards are a little more grown up, the chocolates a little fancier, but overall it still feels good to feel close to someone.
What about your business? It deserves a little love too, and I thought I’d share some ways you can show your appreciation for the joy it brings you every day.
Flowers
Brighten things up by adding some colourful flowers or greenery. Faux or real – they’re sure to elevate the mood in your space and you’ll be more productive – a win-win for you and the business.
Bling it up
Give it a little sparkle! It doesn’t have to be glamorous or expensive – perhaps some art, like an inspiring quote or a photo from a memorable event; an object that has special meaning to you, or how about a new chair that will not only bring you comfort, but also add style to your work area.
Be social
Working on your own can sometimes feel isolating, so make time to connect with other entrepreneurs. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee with a colleague or attending a networking event – online or offline, local or across borders – there are plenty of opportunities to share knowledge, learn about industry trends, others’ challenges and successes, and simply enjoy the company of like-minded business owners. Look for groups that make sense for you and your business, but take advantage of other opportunities that stretch you out of your comfort zone, build confidence, and help you achieve your goals.
Also, set aside no-shop-talk-time and get together with family and friends. It’s all about balance, not matter how that works best for you.
Invest in your business
It starts with you. Have a clear vision for your business, then find and filter the resources that best align with your values and intentions, help you navigate the challenges of operating your own business, and support your goals. Whether it’s business books, workshops, conferences, a coach, or bringing together a team of people to help you manage your business – it’s important to have a system in place that can push your growth – personally and professionally – and work with you to achieve success.
And remember to invest in YOU – the greatest asset in your business! Focus on positivity – think of all your great moments, your successes to date and draw on that energy to fuel your mindset. Set aside as little as 10 minutes each day to sit quietly and immerse yourself in meditation; go for a walk to move your body and refresh your mind; or read an uplifting book. Take time for self-care so that you are at your best, to do what you do best!
This Valentine’s Day falls in the middle of the week, and at our house, that means schedules are a little out of sync. So, my plan is to finish reading “The One Thing” by Gary Keller, go for a long walk with Milo – who consistently displays unconditional love – then return to prepare a hearty meal (the kind that’s usually reserved for Sunday nights), and have a later dinner when we’re all home so we can spend quality time as a family.
How about you? Let us know how you plan to spread a little love this Valentine’s Day.
Cheers,
Preciosa
